SANJAY DHAWAN, MD (2019-2020)
Sanjay Dhawan was born and raised in New Delhi, India. He attended University College of Medical Sciences at University of Delhi where he earned his medical degree. Sanjay then trained at Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi where he completed his residency in general surgery and pursued a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery with the Internal College of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
His passion for medical devices dates back to high school when he first developed a clap switch model with an aim to help the fall-prone geriatric population group. During his under graduation and general surgery residency, he worked towards the modification of laparoscopic ports and surgical instruments to make them ergonomically better for single access laparoscopic surgeries. He joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota in 2017 as a Research Fellow where he started his work to develop an electric field model for the treatment of glioblastomas. He has been able to develop experimental model with promising results in the management of glioblastoma in vitro.
Coming from a country with limited resources, he realizes the unmet clinical needs in health care. Bringing with him his clinical skills and acumen, and his interest in developing medical devices, Sanjay wishes to address the challenges faced by the healthcare professionals and make an impact in improving patient care. In the long term, he's interested in pursuing a career in clinical neurosurgery.
Sanjay enjoys learning about different cultures and cuisines, and in his spare time he enjoys cooking and doing calligraphy.
