YASHEEN BRIJLAL, BSc (Eng), MSc (Med) (2018-2019)
Yasheen is from South Africa where he grew up in Durban and moved to Cape Town to do his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering followed by a Masters in Medicine in Biomedical Engineering, both at the University of Cape Town. Yasheen is passionate about applying his biomedical engineering skills and abilities to make an impact in healthcare with a personal interest in developing medical devices that will ultimately address the unique challenges experienced in Africa.
While completing his Masters, Yasheen worked on multiple medical devices at the University of Cape Towns Medical Devices Laboratory. Several of these devices have been patented and are currently in the process of being commercialized and licensed by Med-tech start-ups. Yasheen is vastly skilled in a technical design skills and hopes to further explore the clinical aspects of Medical Device Development to drive the current class to develop clinically-relevant and meaningful devices.
This is his first trip to the US and he plans on experiencing the local cultures by touring as much of Minnesota as possible. Coming from a subtropical climate, he looks forward to experiencing the winter snow and trying out snow sports. He also enjoys fishing and is excited to try his luck on the Mississippi river as well as experience Ice Fishing.
