Michael received his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota in the area of microrobotics and computer vision. Michael spent over five years at Seagate Technology in the advanced mechanical development group working on new technology development, numerical design optimization, and integration of advanced materials. His work at Seagate resulted in eight patents.

Currently, Michael is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department where he teaches courses in CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, machine design, and machining. His current research areas include smart composite materials, medical device design, and computer vision.

During his free time, Michael enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and throwing rocks into Lake Superior with his family.
