MIKE SULLIVAN, AuD (2014-2015)

Most recently, Mike has been practicing audiology as founder and clinical director of Hearing & Balance Specialists in Richfield, MN. He earned his Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree from the University of Minnesota in 2009 and completed his clinical externship (clinical residency portion of the degree) at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, specializing in vestibular and balance disorders. Mike's prior experience also includes work as a private practice hearing aid dispensing audiologist. He holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association, in addition to Minnesota state licensure in the field of audiology and hearing instrument dispensing.

Sullivan also has a master's degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Science from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor's degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to becoming an audiologist he worked twenty years in the field of software engineering, with roles ranging from hands-on R&D to executive management at technology companies that include 3M, Texas Instruments, and Pitney Bowes.Immediately before establishing Hearing & Balance Specialists, he worked as a research audiologist at Starkey Laboratories, a hearing aid manufacturer located in the Twin Cities. In addition to his duties at Hearing & Balance Specialists, Mike concurrently held full and part-time faculty appointments in the Audiology Doctoral Program at the University of Minnesota from 2010 through 2013.

Mike is a meticulous, inquisitive person who genuinely enjoys helping his patients and is constantly looking for new and better solutions to recurring problems. As such, he is grateful to be part of the 2014-2015 Innovation Fellows Program. His interests outside of work include spending time with his family, working out, and watching Golden Gopher wrestling.
