JOHN BALLARD, PhD (2013-2014)
John Ballard received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 2005 from Michigan State University as well as his MS and PhD degrees in 2007 and 2012, respectively, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
During John's undergraduate work he performed research in the biomedical electromagnetics and ultrasound lab at Michigan State. Additionally, his senior design team obtained a patent for their work on bidirectional motor stall protection.
Throughout his graduate and Post Doctorial studies, John worked on the design and applications of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound for non-invasive surgery for the treatments in oncology (specifically liver cancer) and cardiovascular disease (atherosclerosis). He has presented his work at international conferences (e.g. IEEE IUS, and ISTU) and is published in IEEE tBME. Together, with his colleagues, this work has resulted in a provisional US and International patent and is currently licensed from the University of Minnesota.
Throughout the fellows program John was able to work in several areas spanning cardiovascular and pulmonology for both therapeutic and diagnostic devices. Several of the technologies developed throughout the year are in discussion to be licensed.
John currently works at Design Solutions, Inc. in Chanhassen, MN.
In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his wife Brianna and their two children, running, camping, hiking, and watching sporting events.
